Perpignan is a main stop of the French TGV. 22 times a day, the high-speed trains leaves Brussels-Midi to head to the Mediterranean coast at a speed of up to 320 km/hour. On its way down, it services Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (excellent for plane transfers!), followed by stops in Lyon, Avignon, and Montpellier before reaching Perpignan. Another high speed train runs up from Madrid past Barcelona and Figueres to Perpignan (and further on to Marseille and Paris). There are five services offered by the Spanish LAV a day. Travel times between Perpignan and Barcelona is 70 minutes. In summer, the „train rouge“ travels from Rivesaltes to Axat and stops at our small town.
From Perpignan, the one-euro-bus Quillan-Perpignan will take you to St-Paul-de-Fenouillet. The bus is running all year round.
Bus / Train: In December 2011, the Conseil Général Languedoc-Roussillon launched one euro tickets on certain buses and trains. In Pyrénées-Orientales, these tickets are valid on the train service Perpignan-Villefranche and on the bus from Quillan-Perpignan that passes St-Paul-de-Fenouillet (lines 100 and 150). The nearest train stations to St-Paul-de-Fenouillet are Perpignan and Quillan.
The stations of St-Paul-de-Fenouillet, Estagel and Maury are only served in summer by the tourist train Train Rouge that travels through the valley, its villages and vineyards with open carriages. To view the 2014 timetable, click here: Horaires St Paul juillet aout 2014 TPCF
Bicycles: If you park in Perpignan in the Vinci Catalogne car park, you are invited to use their city bicycles for free. The city’s BIP! Bikes system is also worth a try. Cheaper and easier to use than Paris‘ Vélib, check out their website to see the availability of their 150 bikes at their stations, the city’s cycle paths (voies cyclables), and the cost of rentals. Unless you’d like to subscribe for an entire year, the option „Formule liberté“ is your choice. Unfortunatley, the website is only in French and Catalan: www.bip-perpignan.fr.
At St-Paul-de-Fenouillet, Oxygen Adventure rents out mountain bikes (vélo V.T.T.): 1 rue Docteur Alfred Rives, T. 06 82 69 83 00, www.oxygen-aventure.com
